Dental implants and prostheses

A dental implant is a small, titanium screw-like fixture surgically placed into the jawbone beneath the gum line to replace a missing tooth root. Once implanted, it serves as a sturdy foundation for attaching artificial teeth such as crowns, bridges, or dentures. Dr. Haddad can place implants and dentures following the loss of one or more teeth. Placing an implant means replacing the root of a tooth. A ceramic prosthesis is then attached to the implant to anchor the denture.

When are dental implants necessary ?

When one or more teeth are missing, dental implants can be used to replace them, providing a stable and permanent solution. This procedure is recommended when tooth loss causes chewing and digestion problems, speech difficulties and bone loss in the jaws, as well as for aesthetic reasons. If a tooth is severely decayed or damaged beyond repair, it may need to be extracted and replaced with a dental implant. It is also recommended if you have an advanced gum disease.

How is the prosthesis fitted?

Your dental surgeon chooses to place an implant to replace one or more missing teeth. Implants are inserted into the jawbone to increase denture stability. The artificial tooth can then be firmly attached to the implant. Once the implant has been fixed in the gum under local anaesthetic, a temporary prosthesis can be fitted. After making the dentures to replace your missing teeth, your dentist makes the final adjustments. Your artificial teeth, made by a dental technician, can be either fixed or removable. However, it will be several months before the final prosthesis is fitted.

What are the advantages of implants?

The advantage of implants is that, unlike bridges, they look perfectly natural and do not damage other teeth. It closely resembles a natural tooth in terms of shape, color and size. Dental implants look, feel, and function like natural teeth, providing a long-lasting solution for replacing missing teeth and restoring oral health and aesthetics. What’s more, it’s comfortable and long-lasting. It can easily last over 15 years, or even a lifetime, because it doesn’t move. Implants are inserted into the jawbone and stimulate bone growth. Care of implants is similar to that of natural teeth: brushing and flossing. Dental implants can dramatically improve your quality of life and self-confidence: you can eat, speak and smile with confidence. They help preserve jawbone density and offer stability, durability, and comfort for eating, speaking, and smiling with confidence. Dentures do not rub against the gums or cause irritation.
