Dental implants and prostheses
A dental implant is a small, titanium screw-like fixture surgically placed into the jawbone beneath the gum line to replace a missing tooth root. When are dental implants necessary ?

How is the prosthesis fitted?
Your dental surgeon chooses to place an implant to replace one or more missing teeth. Implants are inserted into the jawbone to increase denture stability. The artificial tooth can then be firmly attached to the implant. Once the implant has been fixed in the gum under local anaesthetic, a temporary prosthesis can be fitted. After making the dentures to replace your missing teeth, your dentist makes the final adjustments. Your artificial teeth, made by a dental technician, can be either fixed or removable. However, it will be several months before the final prosthesis is fitted.
